Parikrama

The Beginning Of The Parikrama

As I said in the earlier posts , the Govardhan Parikrama does not begin at the Daan Ghati Temple. It begins, and ends, at a spot about fifty feet across the temple. Here is a picture of that spot.

Normally this place is very crowded with devotees, this picture was taken during the Shraddh Paksha, when Parikrama is avoided like all Hindu religious rituals except those related to departed souls.

This is also the place where people who can’t walk all the distance of The Parikrama can get e-rickshaws. On a rickshaw, one can complete The Parikrama in about two hours. The rickshaw will stop at the major temples along the way, and of course one can stop to feed the cows and the monkeys along The Parikrama route. Next post is about the one and only compulsory stop of The Govardhan Parikrama. There are other major temples that must be visited by any devotee, but this is the only temple that is mandatory. More in the upcoming post.
